Research

Alderik Blom works on Germanic and Celtic philology, with a focus on medieval multilingualism and the emergence of the early vernaculars.

He is currently beginning work on a large-scale comparison of early medieval vernacular glossing, both Germanic (Old High German, Old Saxon, Old Frisian, and Old English) and Celtic (Old Irish).

His other main research interest concerns nineteenth-century Germanic and Celtic philology and textual criticism in Germany and the Scandinavian countries.

Teaching

Old High German, Old Frisian, Gothic, Old Irish, Middle Welsh, Medieval Latin literature and language.
