The Germanic Linguistics Circle brings together all those with a research interest in any aspect of Germanic linguistics and Germanic philology, whether synchronic or diachronic. Our members work on a number of languages, including (but not limited to) modern German and English, Old High German, Old and Middle English, and Old Frisian. These varied interests are reflected in our past papers, which cover a range of topics from aspects in comparative Germanic phonology, morphology and syntax, to case studies in the history of English.
We include Oxford faculty members and students, and we welcome researchers from elsewhere. You can find details of our meetings, at which a paper is presented and discussed, by selecting ‘Meetings and Events’ below; past papers and other events related to Germanic linguistics are also listed there.
