RESEARCH: My DPhil research uses static palatography, linguography and acoustic analysis to investigate coronal consonants in Moroccan Arabic, Egyptian Arabic, Turkish, German and Dutch. I ask how fine-grained differences in place of articulation and tongue configuration impact the acoustics of coronals, both across these languages and between speakers of the same variety, and how these findings help us better understand cross-linguistic substitution of L2 interdentals. Beyond my thesis, I have a strong interest in Arabic dialectology and Indo-Iranian discourse markers.
