UKRI has launched a call for applications for 2-year early career fellowships exploring the impact of AI on research, aimed at building understanding of how the growing adoption of AI is changing the research landscape and the day-to-day work of researchers.

 

There will be an initial Faculty selection process and the Faculty deadline for Expressions of Interest (as set out below) is Tuesday 4 March 2025.

The UKRI deadline for full applications is Monday 10 April 2025

About the UKRI Metascience AI Early Career Fellowships 2025

Purpose: The UK Metascience Unit will fund a cohort of early career fellows to build understanding of how the growing adoption of AI is changing the research landscape, including what epistemic, metascientific, ethical and socioeconomic questions this raises, and how governments, industry, and funding organisations should respond

What it provides: Up to £260k project funding (100% FEC) for up to 2 years.

Eligibility: This opportunity is open to early career researchers who have completed their PhD by the proposed Fellowship start date, or those able to demonstrate equivalent research or innovation experience.

Mentor: A Faculty member is required to act as the mentor for the applicant, and should have a strong interest in the applicant’s field of research and must work with them to develop the project proposal. The sponsor will provide support throughout the duration of the Fellowship.

Your expression of interest documentation should be emailed andrea.thomson@humanities.ox.ac.uk by Tuesday 4 March 2025, as follows:

 

2-page (maximum) description of your project, including the name of the agreed mentor. You should bear in mind when writing your expression of interest that it will be reviewed by Faculty staff, some of whom will be outside of your specialism.   

 A maximum 2-page CV.
