Congratulations to Dr Angelo Dian, of the Phonetics Lab, for receiving a prestigious ASSTA ‘Best Scientific Communication’ award, for Early Career Researchers at this year’s Interspeech (Sydney). This was for his paper ’Reconciling Dynamic Data Analysis with Linguistic Reality’ (co-authored with Dr Mary Baltazani, Dr Spyros Armostis and Professor Elinor Payne).
With record-breaking submissions to Interspeech this year, Oxford Phonetics was well represented, with a paper also by Dr Rasmus Puggaard-Rode, with Macquarie colleague Dr Joshua Penney, on creaky voice, and another paper by Elinor and Angelo on rising declaratives in Venetan.
