About Me

I am an Academic Visitor in the Faculty and a Research Associate at Jesus College, supported by the Fondation Wiener-Anspach Postdoctoral Fellowship. I grew up in Cameroon, where I studied linguistics at the University of Buea. I completed my PhD in 2024 at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) as a MINI-ARC Research Fellow. My doctoral dissertation presented a morphosyntactic description of Gizey, a language within the Northern branch of Masa. This work focused on identifying grammatical units and analysing how they mark various morphosyntactic categories such as number, gender, tense, and aspect.

Research

My research interests are in language description, documentation, and typology, with a particular focus on the Masa languages, a branch within the Chadic division of the Afroasiatic phylum. My current postdoctoral project focuses on the interpretation of temporal particles: words that contribute temporal meaning while lacking the typical features of verbs and adverbs. I am also very interested in non-iconic doubling phenomena, where doubling (reduplication/repetition) does not indicate plurality or related meanings such as intensity or emphasis. This includes topics like compensatory reduplication, analogical reduplication, verb doubling, and conjunction doubling.
