The British Academy International Fellowship scheme will launch later this month, on Thursday 23 January 2025.

 

As this scheme is highly competitive, there will be an initial Faculty selection process.

 

Please note that the Faculty deadline for Expressions of Interest (as set out below) is Tuesday 4 February 2025.

 

About the British Academy International Fellowships 2025

 

Purpose: The scheme aims to attract outstanding early career postdoctoral researchers from overseas to establish and conduct their research in the UK. The International Fellowships are full-time two-year awards, or can be held on a part-time basis for health reasons or due to caring responsibilities.

 

What it provides: Full-time or part-time salary; research expenses of up to £12k; and relocation costs of up to £8k.

 

Eligibility: There are a number of eligibility criteria and interested candidates must ensure to read the scheme guidance carefully. Key criteria to note include that candidates:

 

·           Must be based and working outside of the UK;

·           Must not hold UK citizenship;

·           Must have a doctorate, or have it awarded before the start date;

·           Must have no more than seven years active full-time postdoctoral experience at the time of application, including teaching experience, and visiting researcher positions; but periods of maternity, paternity, shared parental or adoptive leave as the primary carer, or extended sick leave are excluded;

·           Must not have lived or worked in the UK in the 12 months prior to the application deadline;

·           Cannot normally be applying to come back to the place where they completed their doctorate, or to work with their previous supervisor.

 

UK Sponsor: A Faculty member is needed to act as the ‘UK Sponsor’ for the application, and must work with the lead applicant to develop the project proposal. The sponsor will provide mentoring, support and guidance throughout the duration of the Fellowship.

Your expression of interest documentation should be emailed andrea.thomson@humanities.ox.ac.uk by Tuesday 4 February 2025, as follows:

 

·                2-page (maximum) description of your project which should address the project aims, objectives, research questions, methodology and outcomes; and including the name of Faculty you wish to be considered by, and the name of the agreed supervisor. You should bear in mind when writing your expression of interest that it will be reviewed by Faculty staff, some of whom will be outside of your specialism.   

·                A maximum 2-page CV. 

·                You should also ask your proposed supervisor to send a statement of support separately andrea.thomson@humanities.ox.ac.uk  by Tuesday 4 February 2025.
